Mohammed Shahid Shamim is one the few notable writter and directors in Bangladesh who have strong footholds in the academic area at the same time. Mr. Shamim is well-known as Shamim Shahed in Bangladesh. Mohammed Shahid Shamim is his certificate and passport name.
He is a part-time university teacher, an actor, a director and a dramatist at the same time. Simultaneously he has worked as a judge for ‘UNICEF Meena Media Award’ for last couple of years. He has written near about ten books. His articles have been published in various national dailies and periodicals.
BEGINING OF JOURNEY
ShamimShahed started his career as anofficer of book reading program. He started his career as Deputy Coordinator of World Literature Center or “BishwaShahitya Kendra” on 15th October of 1993. As Deputy Coordinator of World Literature Center or “BishwaShahitya Kendra”, ShamimShahed responsible for all the affairs related ranging from book reading program to award giving throughout Bangladesh. As you know that “BishwaShahitya Kendra” or World Literature Centre has played a strong role in increasing creative book reading in Bangladesh. Professor Abdullah Abu Sayeed, a much respected person, is the secretary of this institution.
WRITTING
ShamimShahed received the “SarbajanShrestha” (Unanimously Best) award in book reading program while he was the Deputy Coordinator of “BishwaShahitya Kendra”. He started his writing from there. His articles have been published in many newspapers and magazines in Bangladesh. His first article was published in the middle of 1994. Then he joined as a sub-editor in the then national daily “BhorerKagoj” on October of 1996. It is to be mentioned that in Bangladesh, India and other surrounding countries most writers begin their journey from writing on national dailies. He started his acting career while he was in “BhorerKagoj” (a national daily of Bangladesh). He is a listed artist of“Bangladesh Television”, the national television channel of Bangladesh. More than hundreds of serials starring him have been aired on various TV channels in the country and its continuing.
After “BhorerKagoj”, ShamimShahed joined “ProthomAlo” (a leading national daily in Bangladesh) as Senior Sub Editor on August of 1998. “ProthomAlo” is currently the most circulated and praised daily newspaper in Bangladesh. At “ProthomAlo”, ShamimShahed was a divisional editor of a children section titled “Gollachut” and of an entertainment section called “Ananda”. He was also a divisional editor of “Bondhusova”, an association of readers of “ProthomAlo”.
FIRST BOOK
While working as a Senior Sub Editor at ProthomAlo (leading national daily of Bangladesh), ShamimShahed’s first book “Planchette and Edison” got published. Later, his others books- “ChaitaliJosnayEkaMeyeti” (A lonely girl in the moonlight), “MeyeTumi Chad How” (Girl, you become the moon), children’s books- “VutankarChowdhuri”, “Katamundu” etc also got published and well appreciated by the readers. At present, the numbers of his published books are more than ten.
BECOMMING AN ACTOR
He started becoming popular during his time as a writer. He was involved with popular theatre group “Nagorik Nattya Shampraday” and performed in many theatre drama including John Milington Singe’s “MrittuShangbad”(death news), Rabindranath Tagore’s “Achalayaton” and “RotherRoshi”, Syed SamsulHaque’s “NuruldinerSarajibon” etc.
ShamimShahed also acted in the popular television drama “Prottabartan”. International awards winning director MostafaSorwarFarooki directed this TV drama. ShamimShahed also stepped into films by Farooki’s film, “Television”. Then he never had to look back. ShamimShahed also performed in television commercials and later in many films.
FILM PRODUCTION
ShamimShahed directed first movie was “Insider”. It was shooted in film. Now, he is waiting for directing a full film.In addition, ShamimShahed is a member of Film Directors’ Associations of Bangladesh. Very soon, he will start directing his next film “JolBalika” (Water Girl).This film is inspired by one of his own novels.
TRAINING & AWARDS
Shamim Shahed was awarded many times by many organizations. Bangladesh ShishuOdhikar Forum, UNISEF, Media Society, National Debate Federation Bangladesh and Science Dpartment of Tejgaon College, Dhaka are some of them who awarded ShamimShahed.
Besides, ShamimShahed has gone under some training organized by some international organizations including National Institute of Mass Communication, Commonwealth Broadcasting Association, UK, British Times Federation and Bangladesh Short Film Forum.
Moreover, 11th National Science Fair awarded ShamimShahed in 1988. Here are some of his achievements:

DOCUMENTARY DIRECTION
Besides doing other works, Shamim Shahed is also making some documentaries. UNISEF has many documentary films under his supervision such as bird flu related documentary, importance of washing hands for children; sanitation related documentary called “DaktarApa” (Ms. Doctor) and children documentary “AmaderShishura” (our children) and “Anno Ekjon”
RESEARCH RELETED WORK
Shamim Shahed is currently involved with some research work including “Chalachitra: Shuru Ebong Bikolpo Dhara” (Cinema: Beginning and alternative flow), research on Bangladesh Cinema: present and future, research on the students of University of Dhaka, and research on children.
AT PREASENT
At present,ShamimShahed is a popular writer, actor, dramatist and director. Currently he is working as a Head of Program of Banglavision (a national satellite channel of Bangladesh). He is also busy with writing novel, making of television commercials, and his new film.
He is now a member of Bangladesh ChalachitraPorichalokShomiti(Bangladesh Film Director Society); lifetime member of Bangla Academy (Bangladesh Literature related organization); active member of the popular theatre group Nagorik.
At present, he is a popular television artist and media personality of Bangladesh.
AS A PRESENTER
At present, ShamimShahed is a popular TV presenter. His presentation style is well appreciated by people. A very popular TV series A ErGolpo (Story of A) presented by ShamimShahed has earned praise. It is mainly a series fiction drama. This show tends to find out all the negative connotation of society started with the Bengali alphabet A. This series also got popularity in abroad. Another popular non-fiction is MonerKotha (words of heart) is also presented by ShamimShahed and earned a lot of praise. Moreover, ShamimShahed presented many TV shows are available on YOUTUBE.
IDEALISM & VISION
Shamim Shahed thinks that every human being is important and respected. A person deserved to be respected for being a human, the best of all creatures. Besides, ShamimShahed emphasizes on relationships. He believes that human relationships and love is assisting in the existence of earth. In addition, ShamimShahed loves to talk about people in his books. He loves sunset and the beauty of darkness. In addition, ShamimShahed loves reciting and writing poems. Whenever he gets free time, he enjoys the beauty of nature and loves to observe people.
ShamimShahed is a popular name and he says, “Popularity and praise makes me more responsible”. He thinks that despite of all difficulties and challenges, life is beautiful.
